Where they started
A Wix site that had outgrown itself
Good Karma Yarn & Soap is a small, beloved artisan shop in Bridgton, Maine selling handcrafted yarn and soap. They came in with a Wix site that looked okay on the surface but was quietly costing them money for features they'd never use, and holding their business back where it actually mattered.
Wix was charging premium pricing for an e-commerce setup that didn't fit how they sold. The checkout was clunky for customers. There was no real product filtering or shop experience that helped new visitors find what they wanted. And shipping was a hassle, the kind of friction that quietly costs sales over time.
They needed a real e-commerce home built around how their shop actually works, with the consistency, checkout reliability, and cross-platform polish that an artisan retail business depends on.
What wasn't working
What wasn't working
- Paying premium Wix pricing for features that didn't fit the business
- Clunky checkout that hurt conversion
- No real product filtering or shop experience for new customers
- Shipping was a constant hassle to manage
- No reliable, consistent platform across desktop and mobile
- Domain locked into a Wix package — no real ownership
What they needed
- A platform built for retail, with reliable checkout and shipping tools
- Clean import of ~75 products and all their variants
- Filterable search by color, fiber type, and yarn weight
- Free shipping incentive to lift average order value
- Volume discount support for soap purchases
- Full control over their own domain — not tied to a platform package
What we built
A full Shopify rebuild from the ground up
We started fresh inside the Shopify Partners dashboard, building the store properly from day one. The Sense theme was customized with Good Karma's brand palette (cream, green, and warm brown) and serif typography to match their handcrafted, artisan identity.
What was built
- Full product CSV import: 75 products with variants
- Custom Liquid sections: events list and brand timeline on the About page
- Header CSS overhaul: two-row grid layout, fully responsive mobile/desktop
- Dropdown navigation with Circular Sock Machines subcategory
- Free shipping bar at $75 threshold
- Volume discount on soap purchases
- Search & Discovery app — filters by Color, Fiber Type, and Yarn Weight
- Domain moved out of the Wix package, giving Good Karma full ownership and control independent of any platform
Tools set up during this project
Where they landed
Live, searchable, and built to grow
Good Karma Yarn & Soap is now live on Shopify at goodkarmafarm.com, with a clean, fast store the owners can manage themselves. Customers can filter by fiber type, yarn weight, and color without digging through pages of results. The free shipping bar nudges orders past $75. And the domain is fully theirs, no longer tied to a platform package.
We also handled their email migration, moving them off the bundled setup they'd been overpaying for and onto a leaner, more affordable system that fits how the business runs.
